How to Make Different Smoothies

Really Red Smoothies

Ingredients

  • 2 stalks rhubarb, trimmed and thinly sliced (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2medium red sweet pepper, seeded and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 3/4cup water
  • 1cup frozen unsweetened whole strawberries
  • 1cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
  • 1/2cup raspberry or strawberry sorbet or sherbet
  • Ice (optional)

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan combine rhubarb, sweet pepper, and the water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 6 to 8 minutes or until rhubarb and pepper are very tender. Stir in strawberries; let stand for 2 minutes (do not drain).
  2. Transfer rhubarb mixture to a blender. Cover and blend until very smooth, stopping and scraping sides of blender as needed. Add raspberries. Cover and blend until smooth. If desired, strain mixture and return mixture to blender. Add sorbet. Cover and blend until smooth. If desired, add ice. Cover and blend until desired consistency, adding additional ice as needed.
  3. Pour into tall glasses and serve immediately.

Apple-Spinach

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups spinach
  2. 1 chopped peeled apple
  3. 1/2 cup silken tofu
  4. 1/4 cup each soy milk and orange juice
  5. 1 tablespoon each wheat germ, honey and lemon juice
  6. 1 cup ice.

Directions

  1. In a small bowl cut peeled apple silken tofu silken tofu soy milk and orange juice wheat germ, honey and lemon juice.
  2. Transfer the diced fruits and vegetable to a blender.
  3. Cover and blend until very smooth
  4. If desired, add ice. Cover and blend until desired consistency, adding additional ice as needed.
  5. Pour into tall glasses and serve immediately.

Mixed Berry Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 cup unsweetened milk (nut, soy, animal)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • Honey or maple syrup, to taste

Directions

  • In a small bowl cut frozen banana add frozen mixed berries, unsweetened milk (nut, soy, animal), plain Greek yogurt and Honey or maple syrup, to taste
  1. Transfer the fruits to a blender.
  2. Cover and blend until very smooth
  3. If desired, add ice. Cover and blend until desired consistency, adding additional ice as needed.
  4. Pour into tall glasses and serve immediately.
